Polymorph lets you do the impossible because it allows you to make things by hand that would normally require injection moulding. It can be formed around any other materials, and will lock parts together after cooling and contracting. You can therefore make unique moulded joints for rough prototype models - or the real thing. Polymorph, an unexpected by-product of a larger chemical process, is the model makers' dream material come true. It has all the properties of nylon but softens into a mouldable condition at just 62CC - in hot water! Polymorph is supplied in standard granular form and is simply covered with very hot water to soften it. It's then moulded by hand. Polymorph feels like chewing gum when you mould it, but on cooling, you have a part which is as strong, light and tough as nylon. (It is not water soluble. Any water is squeezed out during moulding). If you are not happy with your design, simply put it back into another container of hot water to enable you to remould it time and time again. |
Polymorph's light weight makes it suitable for use in model aircraft as well as cars and boats. It is a rare example of a new material finding novel modelling applications every day. It has several exceptional properties including low melting point, high strength and biodegradability. |
